The Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued a notification bringing significant provisions of the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 (ESI Act) into force in all areas of the Banda district in Uttar Pradesh. This move aims to extend social security benefits to workers in the region under the ESI scheme.
According to notification S.O. 3347(E) dated July 21, 2025, issued under sub-section (3) of Section 1 of the ESI Act, the following provisions will come into effect starting August 1, 2025:

- Sections 38 to 43 – These mandate compulsory insurance for employees and outline the responsibilities of employers.
- Sections 45A to 45H – Provisions relating to the determination of contributions, inspections, and penalties.
- Sections 46 to 75 – Cover benefits such as sickness, maternity, disablement, and dependants’ benefits.
- Sub-sections (2) to (4) of Section 76 – Related to the Employees’ Insurance Court.
- Sections 82 and 83 – Provide for rule-making powers and repeals.

With these provisions coming into force, eligible employees in Banda will now be entitled to:
- Medical care for themselves and their dependents
- Cash benefits in case of sickness, maternity, or employment injury
- Disability benefits and family pensions in case of death due to employment injury
This move is part of the government’s continued effort to expand ESI coverage to unserved and underserved areas, ensuring wider access to social security for workers.
