Future-centric and human-centric approach governance design

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, the Ministry of Labour & Employment continues to push boundaries in public sector reform. In a significant step towards making governance more human-centric and future-ready, the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Academy of Social Security (PDUNASS) under EPFO has partnered with the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad to introduce Design Thinking into government training programmes.

This pioneering one-day training workshop titled “Introduction to Design Thinking” is the first of its kind in the government’s training ecosystem. Held at Manthan Hall, PDUNASS, the programme was a blend of ceremonial tradition and cutting-edge ideas. The event was inaugurated with a Deep Prajwalan ceremony and saw participation from 65 in-person attendees and around 100 online participants, including officers from across the country.

This initiative represents more than just a training event—it marks a cultural shift in how government organisations like EPFO are approaching governance in the 21st century. By placing people at the heart of service delivery, and equipping officers with creative tools to solve complex problems, Design Thinking promises to make public services more efficient, accessible, and compassionate.

As PDUNASS continues to reimagine officer training with such forward-thinking initiatives, this collaboration with NID stands as a model for other departments aiming to make governance not just functional, but transformative.
