Assam Declares New Public Holidays for Elections

The Government of Assam has officially declared public holidays on May 2 and May 7, 2025, in light of the upcoming Panchayat elections. The announcement was made via a government notification issued on April 11, 2025.

Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, all government and non-government offices, educational institutions, banks, tea gardens, and business establishments in the affected districts will remain closed on polling days.

🗳️ Polling Schedule:

  • 1st Phase – May 2, 2025:
    Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi.

  • 2nd Phase – May 7, 2025:
    Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Darrang.

This move aims to facilitate smooth and fair polling across 27 districts where Panchayat elections are scheduled to take place. The government urges all citizens to participate actively and responsibly.
