BIS Establishes 16 New Standards Across Key Sectors

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has released a new notification on 16 June 2025, announcing the establishment of 16 updated Indian Standards. These standards cover critical areas including power transmission, battery technology, mining equipment, climate change, and medical software.

All new standards were officially established on 9 June 2025, with older versions (where applicable) scheduled for withdrawal on 9 December 2025.

🔑 Highlights of the New Standards

  • Updated specs for aluminum conductors used in high-voltage power lines.
  • Revised safety code for electrical equipment in mines after nearly 60 years.
  • New guidelines on climate change, environmental impact, and GHG emissions reporting.
  • Standards introduced for medical device software and wearable electronics.
  • Several standards are aligned with international (ISO/IEC) best practices.
