BIS Issues New Amendment to Electrical Steel Strip Standard

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has officially released an amendment to the Indian Standard IS 18316:2023 on April 24th  2025. This standard pertains to hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel strips used in the processing of both semi/fully processed non-grain oriented and fully processed grain oriented electrical steel.

According to this notification  dated April 24, 2025, the amendment — titled Amendment No. 1 — was established on April 22, 2025. This amendment will coexist with the original standard until October 21, 2025, after which only the amended standard will be applicable.

This update is part of BIS’s continuous efforts to ensure Indian standards remain aligned with evolving industrial and technological needs, especially in sectors like power and energy where electrical steel is vital.
