The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has officially announced an amendment to the Indian Standard IS 2083:2024, titled “Flashlight — Specification (Third Revision).” The amendment, notified on June 16, 2025, introduces Amendment No. 1, which has already come into effect from June 9, 2025.
This amendment is in accordance with Sub-rule (1) of Rule 15 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, and aims to enhance or clarify the technical and quality requirements of flashlights being manufactured, sold, or imported in India.
The standard without the amendment will remain in force until December 8, 2025, allowing stakeholders a six-month transition period to comply with the revised requirements.
