BIS Releases New Amendment To ICT Accessibility Standard

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially established Amendment No. 2 to the Indian Standard IS 17802 (Part 1):2021, which outlines requirements for accessibility in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) products and services.

The amendment, notified on 21st April 2025 , was established on 10th April 2025. It will coexist with the unamended standard until 09th October 2025, allowing time for stakeholders to adapt to the updated accessibility norms.

This update reinforces India’s commitment to inclusive digital infrastructure, ensuring products and services are more accessible to persons with disabilities and the elderly.
