BIS Updates Standards for Steel Chequered Plates, Tools

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has issued a notification on May 16 , 2025, establishing amendments to two key Indian Standards. These changes, made under Sub-rule (1) of Rule 15 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, will take effect from May 5, 2025, with a transitional phase allowing previous versions to remain in force until November 4, 2025.

📌 Key Highlights:

  • Steel Chequered Plates (IS 3502:2009) receives Amendment No. 2.

  • Punches with Cylindrical Head (IS 4296 Part 2:2024) sees Amendment No. 1.

  • Both amendments come into force from May 5, 2025.

  • Older versions will remain valid until November 4, 2025, offering a 6-month transition period.
