Centre Proposes New Change to Code on Wages Advisory Board

The Ministry of Labour and Employment on May 22, 2025 has issued a draft notification proposing an amendment to the Code on Wages (Central Advisory Board) Rules, 2021. This change relates to the composition of the Central Advisory Board (CAB), which advises the government on wage-related matters under the Code on Wages, 2019.

Key Change Proposed:

  • Current Wording in Rule 3(3)(i):
“Minister of State, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India”

  • Proposed Amendment:
    Replace it with:
“Minister in Charge, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India”

This change broadens the scope, allowing for flexibility in designating the appropriate ministerial representative in the Central Advisory Board, which plays a crucial role in wage policy formulation.

Public Feedback Invited:

The government invites objections and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public. Feedback must be submitted within 45 days from the date the notification is published in the Official Gazette 6th July 2025 (Sunday)

How to Submit Feedback:

  • To: Shri Nitesh Bhasin, Under Secretary
  • Email: nitesh.bhasin@nic.in
  • Address: Room No. 15A, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Shram Shakti Bhawan, Rafi Marg, New Delhi – 110001

All responses will be reviewed by the Central Government before finalizing the amendment.

This proposed change marks a subtle yet important shift in governance clarity and administrative roles under the Code on Wages, which continues to be a cornerstone of India’s labour reforms.
