In a move to streamline KYC processes and improve compliance for global users, the Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCRR) has announced important updates effective May 30, 2025, from 8 PM onwards. These updates introduce a new ‘Residential Status’ field and revise the proof of address guidelines for foreign nationals.
What’s Changing?
Under the Personal Details section, individuals and related persons of legal entities will now be required to declare their residential status, choosing from the following categories:
- Resident Individual
- Non-Resident Indian (NRI)
- Foreign National
- Person of Indian Origin (PIO)
This addition is applicable across all CKYC record types and modes of access — including screen-based inputs, bulk uploads, and API-based systems.
New Address Proof Norms for Foreign Nationals
To make the process more inclusive and convenient for non-resident users, the CKYCRR will now accept the following documents as valid proof of current address for Foreign Nationals:
- Documents issued by government departments of foreign jurisdictions
- Letters issued by the Foreign Embassy or Mission in India
Alongside this, the proof of identity and address must be one of these standard documents:
- Passport
- Driving License
- Voter Identity Card
System Preparedness
These updates are already available in the test environment, allowing financial institutions and reporting entities time to integrate and test the changes. All entities registered with CKYCRR are advised to update their systems accordingly by the effective date.
