The Ministry of Coal has reported a robust performance in coal production and dispatch from Captive and Commercial Mines for May 2025, reflecting continued momentum in the sector and supporting the nation’s drive toward energy security and industrial growth.
Key Highlights
Coal Production
A total of 16.432 million tonnes (MT) of coal was produced in May 2025. This represents an impressive 24.57% year-on-year growth compared to May 2024.
Coal Dispatch
Dispatches reached 17.499 million tonnes (MT) during the same month, marking a 13.763% increase over May 2024. This growth ensures a consistent coal supply to critical sectors such as power generation, steel manufacturing, and cement production.
Clearances Secured
The Ministry successfully obtained three key clearances in May, including:
- Stage-I Forest Clearance
- Stage-II Forest Clearance
- Mining Lease execution for various coal blocks
Vesting Orders Issued:
On 29th May 2025, vesting orders for six coal blocks were executed as part of the 11th tranche of coal block auctions. The coal blocks are distributed across:
- Maharashtra – 1 block
- Odisha – 1 block
- Chhattisgarh – 2 blocks
- Jharkhand – 1 block
- Madhya Pradesh – 1 block
These achievements are aligned with the Government of India’s mission to build a self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) Bharat, particularly by strengthening domestic energy resources. The continued expansion of captive and commercial mining ensures reduced dependency on imports and enhanced supply chain stability for major industries.
The Ministry emphasized that this sustained performance is the result of proactive policy measures, accelerated project execution, and effective coordination between central and state authorities.
