The Dental Council of India (DCI) has issued an urgent directive to all State Dental Councils and Tribunals, demanding the immediate submission of details for all registered dentists (Part ‘A’ & Part ‘B’ separately) up to March 31, 2025.
This data is crucial for maintaining the Indian Dentists Register, as mandated under Section 18 of the Dentists Act, 1948.
The DCI has reiterated Section 18(2) of the Dentists Act, 1948, which obligates each State Council to supply twenty printed copies of their State register to the DCI annually, soon after the 1st day of April. Furthermore, Registrars are required to promptly inform the DCI of any additions or amendments to their respective State registers.
In light of this legal requirement, all State Dental Councils/Tribunals are directed to furnish the data of all existing registered dentists (categorized separately under Part ‘A’ and Part ‘B’) registered with them up to March 31, 2025, without delay. The data must be provided in both hard copy and soft copy.
The DCI has expressed serious concern regarding discrepancies observed in previously submitted data from State Councils/Tribunals. These inaccuracies include duplication of records, errors in registration numbers, incomplete or incorrect dates, and blank fields. The DCI has explicitly stated that such omissions and errors are unacceptable and has instructed State bodies to furnish correct and complete data to ensure the integrity of the Indian Dentists Register.
The DCI’s communication highlights the urgency of this data submission, emphasizing its importance for maintaining an accurate and up-to-date national register of dentists. State Dental Councils and Tribunals are expected to treat this matter with utmost priority and ensure the timely and accurate submission of the requested information in the specified format.
