Dr. Sunita Sharma Takes Charge as President of the Dental Council of India

This development follows a directive from the Ministry regarding the discharge of presidential functions until the National Dental Commission is constituted or a new permanent appointment is made.

The Ministry had previously ordered on February 24, 2025, that the Director-General of Health Services (DGHS), being a member of both the DCI and its Executive Committee, could fulfill the responsibilities of the President. Consequently, Dr. Sharma will now assume the role of President of the DCI, succeeding Dr. Atul Goel.

The DCI’s circular officially informs the general public and relevant stakeholders that Dr. Sunita Sharma, in her capacity as the DGHS under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has taken over the charge of President of the Dental Council of India from April 28th, 2025. She will continue to serve in this role until the National Dental Commission is established or any further orders are issued for the said position, whichever occurs earlier.

This interim leadership change at the helm of the DCI is a significant development for the dental fraternity in India.
