The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a draft framework outlining the criteria and parameters for the accreditation and ranking of all medical colleges operating under its purview. The NMC is actively soliciting feedback and suggestions from all stakeholders on this crucial document.
The Public Notice, issued on May 10, 2025, signals the NMC’s intent to implement a robust and transparent system for evaluating medical colleges through an independent third-party agency.
The newly unveiled Draft Framework for Accreditation and Ranking of Medical Colleges is built upon a detailed structure comprising 11 overarching criteria and a granular set of 78 distinct parameters. These criteria and parameters are designed to provide a holistic evaluation of medical colleges, encompassing various aspects of their functioning, including infrastructure, faculty, teaching methodologies, research activities, clinical exposure, governance, and patient care. The framework aims to move beyond basic compliance and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement within medical education institutions.
The NMC recognizes the importance of a collaborative approach in developing a framework that is both effective and practical. Therefore, it has placed this detailed draft in the public domain, actively encouraging all stakeholders to engage with the document and provide their valuable insights.
The NMC is specifically urging key stakeholders, including the Deans and Principals of all medical colleges falling under its regulatory ambit, as well as faculty members, administrators, students, and other concerned individuals and organizations, to carefully examine the draft framework.
To facilitate the feedback process, the NMC has provided a dedicated online form.
