EPFO Enables UAN Services via UMANG App with Face Tech

In a major step toward digitization and ease of access, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has announced a new facility that allows employees to generate, activate, and authenticate their Universal Account Numbers (UANs) directly through the UMANG App using Face Authentication Technology (FAT) on April 8th 2025

This initiative aims to simplify and secure the UAN-related processes for employees, eliminating the need for employer or EPFO intervention.

Three Key UAN Services Now Available via UMANG:

UAN Allotment and Activation (for new users without a UAN)

UAN Activation (for users with un activated UANs)

Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs (for updating records)

What You Need to Use the Service:

    • A smartphone
    • UMANG App + Aadhaar Face RD App (both on Play Store)
    • Aadhaar number and linked mobile number for OTP
    • Consent for Aadhaar validation and face scan

    How it Works:

Each service uses Face Authentication via UIDAI to validate identity and autofill data directly from Aadhaar, making the process seamless.
Once authenticated, the system sends the UAN and temporary password via SMS, allowing instant access to EPFO services like:

    • Viewing passbook
    • Updating KYC
    • Claim submissions
    • Downloading the e-UAN card

This marks a significant move toward self-service and paperless workflows within EPFO systems.
