ESI Scheme Rolled Out in Hingoli, Nandurbar (Maharashtra)

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued a notification dated April 30, 2025, extending the benefits of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme to the entire areas of Hingoli and Nandurbar districts in the state of Maharashtra.

This extension, made under the powers granted by sub-section (3) of Section 1 of the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948, will take effect from May 1, 2025.

Applicable Provisions of the ESI Act:

• Sections 38 to 43 – Mandating registration and contributions by employers and employees.

• Sections 45A to 45H – Procedures for contribution determination and recovery.

• Sections 46 to 75 – Comprehensive benefits such as medical, maternity, and disability benefits.

• Section 76 (2) to (4) – Governs appeals and dispute resolution.

• Sections 82 and 83 – Relates to rule-making and transitional powers.

Impact:

This move ensures that workers in Hingoli and Nandurbar now have access to ESI’s social security benefits, including healthcare, cash benefits during sickness or maternity, and compensation for employment-related injuries.

Employers in these regions are now required to comply with all relevant provisions, including employee registration and timely contribution payments to the ESI fund.
