ESIC Extends Medical Benefits to More Bihar Districts

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has issued a notification dated 9th June 2025, significantly expanding its coverage of medical benefits under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948.

Acting under the authority granted by Section 46(2) of the ESI Act, 1948, and Regulation 95-A of the Employees’ State Insurance (General) Regulations, 1950, the Director General of ESIC has designated 1st May 2025 as the effective date for the extension of medical benefits to families of insured persons.

Areas Covered

The expansion covers all areas in the following six districts of Bihar:

  • Araria
  • Saharsa
  • Aurangabad
  • Banka
  • East Champaran
  • Gopalganj

This initiative ensures that the dependents of insured workers in these districts now have access to ESIC medical facilities and services.

What This Means

Families of insured persons residing in these districts will now be eligible for:

  • Free medical consultations at ESIC hospitals and dispensaries
  • Medicines and diagnostic services
  • Specialist care and referrals, as applicable under ESIC norms

Government’s Objective

The notification aligns with ESIC’s broader mandate of expanding universal social security and healthcare access to India’s workforce. By bringing more districts under the ambit of Regulation 95-A, ESIC aims to ensure that not only workers but also their families benefit from the organization’s robust medical infrastructure.

Effective Date

The benefits are applicable retrospectively from 1st May 2025, meaning eligible families can immediately avail services in the listed areas.

For further details, beneficiaries and employers can visit the official ESIC website or contact the nearest ESIC branch office.
