FSSAI Focuses on Food Safety During Peak Tourist Season

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has called upon state and union territory governments to intensify food safety surveillance at popular tourist destinations, particularly during the upcoming peak tourist season. A press release on the 45th CAC Meeting was issued on November 7, 2024.

The 45th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, chaired by FSSAI CEO, emphasized the need for stringent measures to ensure the safety and quality of food served to tourists. Key recommendations from the meeting include:

  1. States and UTs are urged to deploy Food Safety on Wheels mobile labs to conduct inspections at tourist spots and food outlets.
  2. FSSAI has called for increased surveillance of warehouses and delivery personnel associated with e-commerce food businesses.
  3. The meeting emphasized the importance of training food handlers to ensure adherence to food safety and hygiene practices.
  4. States and UTs are encouraged to conduct awareness campaigns and organize events like food festivals and street plays to promote food safety and healthy eating habits.
  5. The meeting stressed the need for collaboration between various government departments, including health, agriculture, and consumer affairs, to ensure a holistic approach to food safety.
