The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has released an updated list of notified laboratories authorized to test fortificants in Fortified Rice (FR), Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK), and Vitamin-Mineral Premix for Fortified Rice Kernel. This order dated June 6, 20205, supersedes a previous directive on this matter dated March 18, 2025.
The FSSAI emphasized that laboratories listed in the revised document are capable of testing fortificants such as Iron, Vitamin B9, and Vitamin B12.
According to the order, laboratories are mandated to accept samples for testing provided they possess a valid accreditation status. The recognition and validity of these laboratories will be governed by guidelines and orders issued by the FSSAI from time to time. Stakeholders are advised to verify the latest accreditation validity of any listed laboratory on the NABL website before submitting samples for analysis.
The revised list is detailed across three annexures:
- Annexure-1 provides the list of laboratories for testing fortificants in Fortified Rice (FR).
- Annexure-2 details laboratories for testing fortificants in Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK).
- Annexure-3 lists laboratories approved for testing fortificants in Vitamin-Mineral Premix for Fortified Rice Kernel.
