FSSAI Releases Updated List of Approved Labs for Fortified Rice Testing

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published an updated list of approved laboratories capable of testing fortificants (Iron, Vitamin B9, and Vitamin B12) in Fortified Rice (FR), Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK), and Vitamin-Mineral Premix for FRK. This order was issued on March 5, 2025.

This announcement supersedes the previous order dated February 4, 2025, and aims to ensure the quality and safety of fortified rice products in India.

The FSSAI has provided three annexures detailing the approved laboratories:

Annexure 1: Lists laboratories approved for testing fortificants in Fortified Rice (FR).

Annexure 2: Lists laboratories approved for testing fortificants in Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK).

Annexure 3: Lists laboratories approved for testing fortificants in Vitamin-Mineral Premix for FRK.

Accreditation and Validity

The laboratories included in the approved list must maintain valid accreditation status to accept samples for testing.

The recognition and validity of these laboratories are subject to guidelines and orders issued by the FSSAI from time to time.

To ensure the most current accreditation status, stakeholders are advised to verify the latest accreditation validity of the laboratories on the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) website before sending samples.

Purpose of the Order

This order serves to:

  1. Establish a standardized and reliable network of laboratories for testing fortified rice products.
  2. Ensure accurate and consistent analysis of fortificants to protect consumer health.
  3. Maintain quality control in the production and distribution of fortified rice.
  4. Provide a clear and updated list of labs for all stakeholders.
