FSSAI Seeks Public Input on Clear Labelling of ‘Analogue in Dairy Context’ Products

Following media reports highlighting the alleged misleading sale of “Analogue in dairy context” products as conventional dairy items, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a public notice inviting comments and suggestions on the matter. This public notice was issued on April 16, 2025.

The FSSAI emphasizes that regulations are already in place for the distinct labeling of these analogue products to ensure clear differentiation for consumers. The FSSAI’s notice comes in response to concerns raised in various media outlets regarding the potential for consumers to be misled into purchasing non-dairy analogue products under the impression that they are traditional dairy items. The authority reiterated its existing regulations aimed at preventing such confusion through specific labeling requirements.

To further discuss compliance with these existing regulations for “Analogue in dairy context” products, the FSSAI held a hybrid meeting with stakeholders on April 7, 2025, at FDA Bhawan. Based on the discussions during this meeting, the FSSAI has published a consultation paper on its website to gather broader feedback and suggestions from all interested parties.

The FSSAI is now requesting stakeholders to furnish their comments and suggestions on this crucial issue. Interested parties can submit their input, along with justification and rationale, through the provided Google response form.

The deadline for submitting comments and suggestions is June 15, 2025.

For the information of stakeholders, the FSSAI has enclosed the consultation paper (Annexure-1) with the public notice.
