The Government of Goa has officially declared Sunday, May 11, 2025, as a paid holiday in select areas of North and South Goa districts due to Panchayat bye-elections.
The notification, issued by the Department of General Administration on May 5, 2025, is in line with Section 40A(1) of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994. The paid holiday is applicable to voters residing in the following wards:
- Ward No. I, Village Panchayat Tivim (Bardez, North Goa)
- Ward No. VII, Village Panchayat Assonora (Bardez, North Goa)
- Ward No. I, Village Panchayat Chicalim (Mormugao, South Goa)
The holiday is granted to allow voters to participate in the bye-elections scheduled for that day.
Who is Eligible for the Paid Holiday?
The notification applies to all eligible voters in the mentioned wards who are employed under the following categories:
- Industrial workers in Goa
- Daily wage workers in government and government industrial departments
- Workers in private commercial and industrial establishments
- Workers of all private businesses
- Daily wage/casual workers in any business or industrial undertaking
- Employees under institutions governed by Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881
This paid holiday is in addition to regular public holidays listed in the Government Notification No. 37/3/2024-GAD-III/4247 dated October 22, 2024.
The move ensures that all eligible voters in these wards can exercise their democratic rights without work-related hindrance.
