The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has announced amendments to the Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Registration of Warehouses Rules, 2017. These amendments aim to expedite the warehouse registration process.
In a notification dated May 8, 2025, the Central Government has introduced the Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Registration of Warehouses (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
The key changes introduced by these amendments involve a reduction in the stipulated timelines for various stages of the warehouse registration process. Specifically, in the Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Registration of Warehouses Rules, 2017:
- The timeframe for processing applications has been reduced from “fifteen working days” to “seven working days.”
- The period for scrutiny and decision-making has been shortened from “twenty-one working days” to “seven working days.”
- Similarly, the timeframe for addressing discrepancies or seeking clarifications has also been reduced from “twenty-one working days” to “seven working days.”
These amendments indicate a clear intent by the Central Government to streamline the process of registering warehouses under the Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Act, 2007.
