Govt Amends QCO for 3 Industrial Chemicals

In a move to enhance regulatory oversight and ensure quality standards, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals) on May 14 , 2025 has issued amendments to the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for three important industrial chemicals: H Acid, K Acid, and Vinyl Sulphone.

The amendments revise the effective dates of the original Quality Control Orders issued in 2024. These changes follow consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and are deemed necessary in the public interest.

H Acid (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025

  • New Enforcement Date: August 13, 2025

  • Replaces the original effective date mentioned in the 2024 order.

K Acid (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025

  • New Enforcement Date: May 13, 2026

  • Extends the implementation period, allowing stakeholders more time to comply.

Vinyl Sulphone (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025

  • New Enforcement Date: August 13, 2025

  • Aligns with H Acid’s revised compliance timeline.

    These chemicals are critical to various sectors, particularly the dye and chemical manufacturing industries. The extension in compliance deadlines is expected to aid manufacturers in adhering to the standards mandated by BIS without disrupting production.

    🏛️ Legal Basis:

    The amendments are issued under Section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, empowering the Central Government to enforce or amend quality control norms in the public interest.
