Govt Issues Warning to ISPs Over Security Non-Compliance

The Ministry of Communications, through the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has issued a stern notice to all internet service providers (ISPs) regarding lapses in compliance with national security obligations on May 1 , 2025.

🔍 Key Concerns Highlighted:

Delays in IPDR Submission:

ISPs reportedly fail to provide Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) to security agencies in a timely manner, hampering crucial investigations.

Non-Resolution of IP Addresses:

In some cases, ISPs are unable to resolve IP addresses, further delaying law enforcement processes.

Missing or Outdated Nodal Officer Information:

Several providers lack updated details of nodal officers, their customer base, and area of operation—a critical breach of security protocol.

📢 DoT’s Directive:

The Department reminded all licensees that they are legally bound to follow:

  • The license agreement conditions

  • All Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued periodically

⚠️ Consequences of Non-Compliance:

Failure to adhere to the conditions may result in:

  • Official classification as non-compliant

  • Possible termination of license after due process

The notice is a clear message to ISPs that security compliance is non-negotiable, especially in a high-risk digital era. The Department urges all service providers to update their records and strengthen coordination with national security agencies.
