The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially established 16 new Indian Standards, many of which revise decades-old specifications in dental instruments, ENT surgical tools, medical implants, respiratory devices, and public service delivery models.
The updated standards came into effect on April 10, 2025, and wherever applicable, the earlier standards will remain in force until October 10, 2025, providing a six-month transition window.

Hospitals, dental clinics, medical device manufacturers, and public service departments should begin transitioning to the 2025 versions of the standards immediately, as the older versions will be withdrawn by October 10, 2025.
