The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has officially declared the M.Sc. Forensic Nursing program as a recognized additional qualification in nursing. This recognition is set to bolster specialized expertise within the healthcare sector. This announcement comes via Notification dated June 5, 2025.
This recognition is made with reference to the INC Gazette Notification dated October 7, 2023, which established the M.Sc. in Forensic Nursing Regulation 2023. Under Section 10 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, the M.Sc. Forensic Nursing program is now formally acknowledged as a legitimate nursing qualification.
The significance of this notification is that graduates of this postgraduate degree will have their qualification registered as an “Additional Qualification” by the respective State Nursing Councils. The degree will be officially awarded as “M.Sc (Forensic Nursing).”
This step by the INC aims to formalize and integrate the specialized skills of forensic nursing into the mainstream healthcare system, which is crucial for addressing legal aspects of healthcare, victim support, and evidence collection in various medical-legal cases.
The notification has been circulated to Vice Chancellors and Registrars of all Universities, Controllers of Examination, and Registrars of all State Nursing Councils, ensuring widespread awareness and implementation.
