Kerala Extends Consent Validity for Seasonal Brick Kilns

The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has extended the validity period for the consent of temporary/seasonal brick kilns following the recent amendment to the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986. The decision was formalized through a circular issued on April 14, 2025.

📜 Background:

This move comes in response to the MoEF&CC notification dated January 22, 2025, which was later communicated via CPCB’s letter dated March 13, 2025. The notification amends Schedule-I, Sl. No. 74, Note 2(b) of the 1986 rules, substituting “one year” with “two years, four months, and seven days” for consent validity.

🔍 Key Details:

  • Applicable Units: Temporary/Seasonal Brick Kilns
  • New Consent Period: 2 years, 4 months, and 7 days
  • Applies to: Both new and existing brick kilns
  • Implementation: Immediate, in line with MoEF&CC’s revised guidelines

KSPCB had previously issued guidance via Circular No. KSPCB/531/2022-SEE-3 (dated 11/04/2024), but this new circular aligns consent renewals with the latest central environmental regulations.

This update streamlines administrative processes for seasonal brick kiln operators while ensuring continued environmental oversight.
