The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an Advisory directed at Digital News Publishers and Social Media Intermediaries regarding the broadcast of sensitive content related to recent incidents. The Ministry noted that some digital news publishers have been broadcasting content related to alleged persons involved in the Red Fort blasts that justifies their acts of violence. Furthermore, information and videos detailing how to make explosive material have also been broadcast.
The Ministry stated that such broadcasts may inadvertently encourage or incite unlawful activities.
Directives to Publishers
All digital news publishers are strongly advised to adhere to the following directives:
- Exercise Discretion and Sensitivity: Publishers are advised to exercise the highest level of discretion and sensitivity when reporting on such matters.
- Avoid Promoting Unlawful Activities: Publishers should avoid telecasting visuals that could aid, abet, or promote unlawful activities.
