The Ministry of Textiles, through the Office of the Jute Commissioner, has officially fixed the maximum ex-factory prices for 580-gram ‘Type-A’ and ‘Type-B’ B-Twill Sacking Jute Bags. This notification, on June 11, 2025, aims to regulate pricing for transactions occurring throughout June 2025.
The Jute Commissioner, exercising powers conferred by Clause-3(6) of the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016, has set the following maximum prices:
- Price per Metric Ton (MT): ₹114,783.00
- Price per 100 bags: ₹6,657.41
These prices apply uniformly to both Type A and Type B bags, which are specified to be of size 94 cm x 57 cm/HD, with a mass of 580 grams per bag. The bags must adhere to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Specification IS: 16186:2014, including specified ends per dm and pecks per dm, along with additional identification markings as per existing orders.
The notification also mandates that every jute bag must bear specific markings. This includes an emblem specified by the Office of the Jute Commissioner, Kolkata (as per PCSO), the name of the manufacturing mill, and the BIS certification mark. The average minimum breaking strength of the bags must comply with the BIS specification.
A crucial point for buyers and sellers is that the fixed prices are exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST). Purchasers will be required to pay GST in addition to the ex-factory price.
This move by the Jute Commissioner underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure fair pricing and standardized quality within the jute industry, particularly for essential sacking materials.
