The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), has issued Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025 to further amend Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019.
Key Update:
A one-year exemption has been granted to hermetic compressors of up to 2 TR (7000 W) capacity from mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) compliance requirements.
This exemption is applicable:
- Only for manufacturers of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and related parts
- On an actual user basis
- Effective from the commencement date of the Amendment Order
This move is aimed at easing regulatory pressure on manufacturers, especially small and mid-sized units, giving them time to align with quality standards without disrupting production or supply chains.
The order is issued under the authority of Section 16 read with Sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the BIS Act, 2016, after due consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The new Amendment Order, 2025, comes into effect immediately – April 17th 2025
