Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare has inaugurated the National Medical Register (NMR) Portal of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The press release was issued on August 23, 2024.
This portal aims to register all MBBS doctors eligible for practicing medicine in India.
The NMR is a crucial step towards establishing a comprehensive and dynamic database for all allopathic (MBBS) registered doctors in the country. The portal is linked to the Aadhaar ID of each doctor, ensuring authenticity and accuracy.
The Minister emphasized the importance of the NMR in strengthening the digital healthcare ecosystem and providing quality healthcare to the people of India. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of making India digitally sound and emphasized that a robust digital health ecosystem is essential to achieve this goal.
The NMR will be a valuable resource for various stakeholders, including patients, healthcare providers, and regulatory bodies. It will provide a transparent and reliable source of information about registered medical practitioners, facilitating better coordination and accountability within the healthcare sector.
The State Medical Councils (SMCs) play a vital role in the development and maintenance of the NMR. The Minister urged the SMCs to actively participate in the registration process and ensure timely authentication of doctor information.
The launch of the NMR marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize the healthcare sector and improve access to quality healthcare services for all citizens.
