New CPI for VDA In Telangana

On April 17th 2025 , in a significant development affecting thousands of workers across Telangana, the Commissioner of Labour, Telangana and Hyderabad, who also serves as the Competent Authority under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948  has officially released the revised Average State Consumer Price Index Numbers for the half-year ending December 2024

These new figures will directly impact the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) payable to workers across various Scheduled Employments in the state for the period from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025.

📈 Key Highlights:

  • Part I – Industrial Workers
The index has recorded a notable increase of 51 points, rising from 1888 to 1939.
  • Part II – Agricultural Workers
The index has gone up by 33 points, moving from 1459 to 1492.

These revised indices are crucial components in the calculation of Variable Dearness Allowance, which is linked to inflation and cost of living, ensuring that workers’ wages remain fair and adjusted in response to market conditions.

🔍 What This Means:

Employers across Telangana, especially those involved in scheduled employments under the Minimum Wages Act, must use these updated CPI numbers to compute the VDA payable to their workers from April to September 2025. The adjustment reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to protect the purchasing power of low-income workers amid rising living costs.

This update is part of the routine half-yearly revision that factors in the cost-of-living index, ensuring that the wages of both industrial and agricultural workers remain aligned with inflationary trends.
