The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has issued a public notice to inform industries and stakeholders about the new emission standards for industrial boilers, as notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India.
This directive will come into effect from 15th May 2025. The notification outlines maximum permissible Particulate Matter (PM) emission limits for industrial boilers based on their steam generation capacity and type of fuel used.
The complete details of the standards are available on the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) website.
🔑 Key Highlights of the Notification:
- Applies to all industrial boilers across Punjab.
- Deadline for compliance: 15 May 2025.
- Emission limits depend on:
- Fuel type (Agro-based/Bagasse vs Other fuels).
- Boiler capacity (in tons per hour of steam generation).
- Industries must comply with the norms in letter and spirit.
📊 Emission Standards for Industrial Boilers
Boiler Capacity (Tons/hour) | PM Limit (mg/Nm³) – Agro/Bagasse | PM Limit (mg/Nm³) – Other Fuels |
Less than 2 | 500 mg/Nm³ | 500 mg/Nm³ |
2 to less than 10 | 250 mg/Nm³ | 150 mg/Nm³ |
10 and above | 250 mg/Nm³ | 100 mg/Nm³ |
📣 Message to Industries
All industrial associations and individual industries using boilers are urged to upgrade their emission control systems and ensure compliance with the new norms well before the deadline. Non-compliance may attract regulatory action.
