New Liquor Duties in Chhattisgarh

The State Government of Chhattisgarh issued a notification outlining the new countervailing or excise duties levied on different types of liquor in Chhattisgarh. It is a formal announcement made under the powers conferred by the Chhattisgarh Excise Act, 1915.

Changes made include:

  1. Country Liquor:
    • A 50% duty will be charged based on the ex-factory price. This means that half of the price of country liquor before it leaves the factory will be added as duty.
  2. Foreign Liquor:
    • Spirits: A 50% duty will be applied to the landing price (the price when the liquor arrives, not including any previous duties).
    • Malt: A 40% duty will be applied to the landing price (also not including any previous duties).

The duties must be paid before the liquor is supplied to the respective warehouses or godowns of the Chhattisgarh State Beverages Corporation Limited.

The new rules will come into effect from September 1st, 2024.
