In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and improving user awareness, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that detailed information about the ‘Local Monthly Pass’ and ‘Annual Pass’ will now be prominently displayed at all toll plazas across the country.
The initiative, issued under the directions of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, seeks to ensure that highway users are fully informed about the availability, eligibility, and procedures for availing concessional travel passes on national highways.
Key Highlights of the Initiative
- Visible Signage at Toll Plazas:
NHAI field offices have been instructed to install information boards displaying details of both Local Monthly Pass and Annual Pass at easily visible locations such as:- Toll plaza approaches
- Customer service areas
- Entry and exit points
- These boards will be displayed in English, Hindi, and/or regional languages to ensure accessibility for all commuters.
- Implementation Timeline:
The signage installation is to be completed within 30 days, and all boards must be clearly visible during both day and night, in line with applicable fee rules. - Digital Access via Rajmargyatra App:
For wider dissemination, all relevant information will also be uploaded on the ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile application and corresponding NHAI project websites, allowing users to easily access pass details digitally.
Details of Available Passes
Local Monthly Pass (LMP):
Designed for daily commuters residing near toll plazas, the Local Monthly Pass offers an economical travel option.
- Eligibility: Residents within 20 km radius (or as applicable) of a toll plaza.
- Documents Required:
- Aadhaar Card
- Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
- Proof of residential address
- How to Avail: The pass can be obtained from the Fee Plaza Helpdesk after document verification.
Annual Pass:
This pass is tailored for private vehicle owners such as cars, jeeps, and vans who frequently use national highways.
- Validity: One year or 200 fee plaza crossings, whichever comes first.
- Fee: A one-time payment of ₹3,000.
- How to Avail: Can be purchased digitally via the Rajmargyatra App and activated on the vehicle’s FASTag.
- Coverage: Accepted at around 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and Expressways across India.
