The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice urging all medical colleges and institutions under its administrative domain to actively celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) on May 31, 2025.
The NMC highlighted the public health burden associated with tobacco use, emphasizing its role as a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and chronic lung disease.
To raise awareness about the tobacco epidemic and the preventable deaths and diseases it causes, the World Health Organization (WHO) Member States, through World Health Assembly Resolution, called for the annual observance of World No Tobacco Day on May 31.
The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2025, as announced by WHO, is “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products”.
The NMC has enclosed suggested activities for the celebration of WNTD 2025 and has directed all Deans and Principals of medical colleges and institutions to actively participate in these observances.
