In a significant move aimed at enhancing data security and protecting the interests of Provident Fund (PF) members, the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has issued a circular on March 27, 2025, announcing a new policy that restricts employers from accessing employees’ past employment details.
Key Highlights of the Circular:
- Restricted Access: Going forward, employers will only be able to view the current employment details of their employees. This change is designed to safeguard PF members from any potential misuse of their past employment information.
- Seamless EPS Continuation: Despite the restricted access to past employment records, the continuity of the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995, remains unaffected. Employees who declare their past EPS membership through Form 11 will allow their present employer to view the EPS membership status at the time of onboarding.
- Focus on Data Security: This move reflects EPFO’s commitment to strengthening data security protocols while ensuring that eligible members continue to benefit from the EPS even when they change jobs.
This policy is expected to streamline the onboarding process, reduce administrative hurdles, and enhance the overall security of employee data within the EPFO system.
