Punjab State Pollution Control Board: New Classification for Spice Grinding Units

On October 7, 2024, the Punjab State Pollution Control Board (PSPCB) announced an important update regarding the classification of industrial sectors, specifically focusing on spice grinding units. This new notification aims to harmonize the categorization of these industries into red, orange, green, and white categories, following the guidelines set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Previously, the classification of industries was outlined in an order dated September 29, 2016.

However, recent notification includes a partial modification in the categorization of spice grinding units.

Key Changes in Classification

One significant change in the new notification is the removal of “Dry Grinding of Spices,” which was categorized as a white category industry at Sr. No. 4072. This categorization has now been omitted, and instead, spice grinding activities will be classified under the green category. Specifically, these activities are now listed under Sr. No. 3044 which states Spice grinding (upto-20 HP motor) and 3045 which states Spice grinding (>20 hp motor).

These orders shall be effective from October 7 , 2024
