In a significant boost to India’s clean mobility mission and the Government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has sanctioned financial assistance to Electrowaves Electronics Pvt. Ltd., a Himachal Pradesh–based company leading innovation in electric vehicle (EV) charging technology. Announced on November 27, 2025, this initiative marks a strategic step toward strengthening India’s domestic EV charging ecosystem and reducing reliance on imported technologies.
Driving India Toward Self-Reliance in EV Charging
As the country accelerates its transition to electric mobility, accessible and high-quality charging infrastructure has become a critical priority. Recognizing this, TDB has supported Electrowaves Electronics in commercializing EV chargers that are entirely Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured (IDDM). This aligns strongly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to building a self-reliant, innovation-driven India—one where clean-tech solutions are not only developed at home but also scaled to global competitiveness.
Advanced Home-Grown Charging Technology
Electrowaves Electronics has engineered both AC chargers and DC fast chargers, covering a wide spectrum of use cases—from household charging points to high-capacity public charging stations for rapid EV turnaround. The company’s DC fast chargers span an impressive 30–240 kW range, powered by a robust technology stack designed fully in-house.
Key components of their innovation include:
- 15 kW & 30 kW Power Converter Modules with 100–1000 VDC output and 100A maximum current
- PLC Communication Controller compliant with DIN SPEC 70121 and partially with ISO 15118
- OCPP Communication Controller supporting both OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1
- Universal DC Charge Controller integrated with a complete HMI interface
- AC Type-2 chargers for domestic and commercial deployment
These developments underscore India’s growing expertise in complex power electronics, standard-compliant communication systems, and grid-integrated EV charging technologies.
Catalyzing the EV Ecosystem and Clean-Tech Supply Chain
The financial backing from TDB is expected to significantly scale Electrowaves’ production capabilities, strengthening India’s EV charging infrastructure at a time when adoption of electric vehicles is rapidly increasing. By reducing dependency on imported charging hardware, India not only enhances energy and technological security but also cultivates a resilient domestic supply chain in clean-tech—a sector poised to be one of the most transformative of this decade.
This initiative also supports India’s broader climate goals, including its commitment to net-zero emissions, by enabling smoother EV adoption through reliable and affordable charging options.
Voices from Leadership
Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, emphasized that indigenous EV charger development is a clear reflection of India’s innovation-led growth. He noted that such initiatives strengthen energy independence, foster sustainable industrial development, and help the nation fast-track its clean mobility transition.
The promoters of Electrowaves Electronics expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting that the funding will accelerate their manufacturing expansion and enhance their contribution to India’s green energy future.
A Step Toward a Greener, More Self-Reliant India
TDB’s support reaffirms the government’s sustained commitment to Make in India, indigenous technology advancement, and leadership in next-generation transportation systems. As India pushes ahead on the path of clean and connected mobility, home-grown companies like Electrowaves Electronics are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping a self-reliant, future-ready EV ecosystem.
