The Government of Tamil Nadu has officially revised the minimum monthly basic wages for employees working in private hospitals and nursing homes (excluding Government and ESIC institutions). This revision, notified under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, supersedes the previous notification issued in March 2018.

  • Applies to: All private hospitals and nursing homes in Tamil Nadu
  • Excludes: Government and ESIC hospitals/dispensaries
  • Wages Revised: Based on bed strength of hospitals and location zones
  • Zones Classification:
    • Zone A: Municipal Corporations & Special Grade Municipalities
    • Zone B: All other Municipalities
    • Zone C: Other areas
  • Dearness Allowance (DA):
    • Linked to Chennai City CPI (Base: 2001 = 100; Index: 218)
    • ₹44 per point increase above 218
    • Recalculated annually in April based on previous year’s CPI average
  • Gender Pay Equality: No wage discrimination between men and women for the same role
  • Daily Wage Calculation: Monthly wage ÷ 26
  • Higher Existing Wages: Must continue if already above new minimums

  • Categories include: Office & General, Registered Nurses, Medical/Paramedical/Allied roles

This move ensures fair and structured compensation for healthcare workers in the private sector, acknowledging their critical role in the healthcare system. Institutions must comply with the revised structure immediately from the date of publication.
