Traumatology and Surgery Postgraduates May Soon Be Eligible for M.Ch. Specialties

The Postgraduate Medical Education Board has announced its intention to include M.S. (Traumatology and Surgery) as an eligible feeder course for M.Ch. specialties. This decision, if finalized, would allow graduates in Traumatology and Surgery to pursue further specialization in Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The Board has decided to allow these postgraduate degree holders to provisionally appear in the NEET-SS 2024, scheduled for March 29th and 30th, 2025. This means that candidates with an M.S. in Traumatology and Surgery can apply and sit for the NEET-SS 2024 exam for the specified M.Ch. specialties.

However, the final selection of these candidates for the M.Ch. programs is contingent upon the approval and publication of the “Post-Graduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2025” in the Gazette of India. While the Board has made its decision, the regulatory change is still pending, and the eligibility of these candidates will be formally confirmed only after the amendment is officially gazetted.

This move signals a potential expansion of career pathways for Traumatology and Surgery specialists, allowing them to further specialize in high-demand surgical fields.
