Tripura Factories Rules Amended to Specifically Address Needs of Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers

The Government of Tripura has issued a notification, dated May 8, 2025, announcing further amendments to the Tripura Factories Rules, 2007. This amendment specifically focuses on updating the language within the rules to better address the needs of pregnant women and lactating mothers in the workplace.

The notification, issued by the Factories & Boilers Organisation under the Labour Department of the Government of Tripura, introduces the “Tripura Factories (Twelfth Amendment) Rules, 2025.” These amended rules will come into force from the date of their publication in the Tripura Gazette.

The key change introduced by this amendment is within Rule 160 of the Tripura Factories Rules, 2007. The notification states that the words “woman” and “women,” wherever they appear in the existing Rule 160, will now be substituted with the more specific expression “pregnant woman or lactating mother.”

This amendment signifies a move towards more precise and inclusive language within the state’s factory regulations, specifically recognizing the distinct requirements and considerations for pregnant women and lactating mothers in industrial workplaces. By replacing the general terms “woman” and “women” with the more specific phrase, the Tripura government aims to ensure that any provisions within Rule 160 are clearly directed towards and cater to the particular needs and protections of this specific group of workers.
