BIS Invests in R&D to Drive Standardisation
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced the sanction of 82 research and development (R&D) projects to bolster its standardisation efforts. These projects, awarded to faculty members from institutions like IITs and NITs, will focus on cutting-edge domains such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, medical devices, renewable energy, and sustainability.
The New Draft Haryana IT & ITeS Policy, 2024
On July 16, 2024, the Department of Industries & Commerce, Haryana, released the Draft Haryana IT & ITeS Policy, 2024. Key objectives include:
Doubling IT Service Exports and Turnover: Aims to enhance economic growth and global competitiveness.
Job Creation: Targets the creation of 300,000 jobs in the IT/ITeS sector.
Promotion of R&D: Plans to establish Centers of Excellence to drive innovation.
Holistic Development: Seeks balanced growth across the IT/ITeS sector statewide.
DoT amends the Scope of IP-1 Registration
DoT amends the Scope of IP-1 Registration vide notification dated 27.6.2024. As per the Guidelines for Registration of Infrastructure Providers Category-1, the Infrastructure Providers Category-1 are those IPs who provide and maintains asset such as dark fibres, Right of Way, duct space & tower. However, as per the latest amended clause of IP-1 registration, IP who provide and maintain asset such as POLES are also included under the IP-1 Category.
Enforcement of Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2024
Enforcement of Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment ) Regulations ,2024 from July 1, 2024. As per the regulation, a mandatory seven-day waiting period for mobile number portability (MNP) following a SIM swap or replacement, to curb fraudulent activities involving SIM card manipulation and mobile phone fraud.
Digital Bharat Nidhi: The Department of Telecommunication releases draft rules seeking public feedback
The Ministry of Communication issued the draft Telecommunications (Digital Bharat Nidhi) Rules, 2024. The draft highlights the definition of administrator, the Powers and Functions of the administrator and the provisions of the Funding from the Digital Bharat Nidhi. It seeks public feedback to be addressed to the Joint Secretary (Telecom) on or before 3rd August 2024.
DoT further extends deadline for M2M, WPAN/WLAN service registration for all unregistered entities
DoT has extended the deadline for registration and has directed all the unregistered entities which included Companies, Govt. Departments/Organizations, Partnership Firms, LLPs, Institutions, Undertakings, Proprietorship Firms, Societies and Trusts to obtain the M2MSP and WPAN/WLAN service registration on or before September 30, 2024

DoT notifies further Implementation of certain sections under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. Sections 6 to 8, 48, and 59(b) of the Act will also be implemented which focus on utilization of spectrum and procedures for granting licenses for various telecommunications activities.
New Accessibility Rules for Banks to Benefit Persons with Disabilities

Supreme Court Mandates Self-Declaration Certificates for Advertisements In India
Starting June 18, 2024, all new advertisements on T.V. channels/ electronic media/ Press/ Print Media/ Internet require a valid Self-Declaration Certificate. A two-week window (from June 4, 2024) allows stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the process. Currently running advertisements are exempt for now.
