The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and healthcare institutions to submit details of stipends paid to interns and resident doctors. This notice notice was dated April 16, 2024.
This directive follows orders issued by the Supreme Court of India on September 16, 2023, and April 1, 2024, requiring the NMC to collect stipend information.
Details for Past Year (2023-2024)
Medical colleges must submit details regarding stipends paid to:
- Undergraduate Interns
- Postgraduate Residents
- Senior Residents or PGs in Super Specialty
for the financial year 2023-2024. The deadline for submission is April 23, 2024. Institutions should submit this information using Annexure 1 via email to stipend23-24@nmc.org.in
Details for 2024-2025 Onwards
Starting with the 2024-2025 financial year, the process will be as follows:
- Medical colleges will upload stipend details directly on their websites
- Updates will be required monthly by the 5th of each month as per Annexure 2
- Complete annual statement shall be submitted to the NMC via email at the year’s end.
This new system increases transparency regarding intern and resident doctor stipends. The NMC can now monitor stipend practices and ensure compliance with regulations. Additionally, public access to stipend information on medical college websites also promotes transparency.
