The Ministry of Power (MoP) and New and Renewable Energy (NRE) has approved the creation of an independent thermal project monitoring group (TPMG). This group will be responsible for conducting site inspections and providing assessments of thermal power projects currently under development in India. This Office Memorandum was issued on April 2, 2024.
The TPMG will be comprised of the following:
- a Member [Thermal], CEA, who will head the group
- a chief engineer or officer above that level from the CEA, and
- six retired senior officers from CEA, NTPC, and DVC.
- two Deputy Director (DD) Level Officers of CEA will also be included to assist the group.
The Ministry of Power has emphasized the importance of this initiative. The TPMG is expected to ensure that thermal power projects are completed efficiently and according to established standards. This will contribute to a more reliable and stable power supply in India.
