New Coastal Aquaculture Authority Rules, 2024 Published

These rules have replaced the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Rules, 2005. They introduce comprehensive guidelines and procedures for the regulation of coastal aquaculture units and activities. These rules emphasize the importance of responsible aquaculture practices, balancing economic interests with ecological preservation. The rules were notified on January 9, 2024 and have come into force on that same date.

10th Governing Body Meeting of National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB)

The Union Minister emphasized the importance of addressing the specific needs of traditional fishermen, suggesting that NFDB examine the possibility of allocating a separate percentage for this community. Non-official Governing Body Members from different states also highlighted issues faced by the fishing community, emphasizing the need for sector development.

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana to Boost India’s Fisheries Sector

Under PMMSY, a robust fisheries management framework is established, providing need-based support to States and Union Territories for the formulation and implementation of fisheries management plans. The scheme also promotes aquaculture, mariculture, post-harvest management, and various economic activities within the fisheries sector, with the overarching goal of enhancing income and improving the socio-economic conditions of fishers and stakeholders.

Global Fisheries Conference India 2023

The conference featured an extensive agenda comprising five technical sessions, five industry connections, and five Government-to-Government (G2G), Government-to-Business (G2B), and Business-to-Business (B2B) sessions. An exhibition organized during the conference showcased the participation of start-ups, fishermen, food stalls, and demonstrations ranging from aquariums to artificial reefs, seaweed cultivation, marine cage culture, biofloc, RAS, fish feed, LPG converter kits, pearl extraction, and nucleus implantation.

Global Fisheries Conference to be held in India

The event was held at Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad with the theme ‘Celebrate the Fisheries and Aquaculture Wealth’. 8% share in global fish production, India is the 3rd largest fish producer, 2nd largest aquaculture producer, largest shrimp producer and 4th largest seafood exporter in the world.

33rd Conference of WOAH Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The inaugural session of the 33rd Conference of the WOAH Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific at New Delhi. The Government of India has started the Implementation of livestock health and disease control programme using One Health Approach. On the other hand, Government of India has implemented disease control programme for FMD and Brucellosis, PPR and classical swine fever through carpet vaccination of all eligible livestock in  the country.
