The amendment notification has modified the term “mental retardation” for a more inclusive term of “women with intellectual disability”. The updated terminology aligns with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, promoting person-centered language that respects the dignity of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, chaired the 29th meeting of the Central Supervisory Board (CSB). The establishment of these Medical Boards signifies a concerted effort to ensure the smooth and lawful execution of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971. It is crucial to note that each Medical Board must include at least one female member. In situations where a board member is unavailable during discussions on a specific case, suitable substitutions may be made by the Chairperson.
