Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers held a meeting with a delegation led by Telangana Chief Minister to address the crucial issue of fertilizer availability in the state. During the discussion, the Union Minister assured the Telangana Chief Minister of full support to meet the genuine demand of the state’s farmers and instructed officials from the Department of Fertilizers to ensure supplies as per requirement. This press release was issued on July 9, 2025.
The Chief Minister specifically requested for an uninterrupted supply of urea for the months of July and August, critical period for the peak Kharif season.
While extending support, Union Minister also expressed significant concern over the excessive consumption of urea in Telangana, highlighting its detrimental impact on long-term soil health. Data presented showed a 21% increase in urea sales during Rabi 2024-25 compared to the previous Rabi season, and a 12.4% increase in Kharif 2025 so far compared to the same period in Kharif 2024.
The Secretary of the Department of Fertilizers brought attention to the PM PRANAM scheme. This initiative incentivizes state governments to reduce the over-consumption of chemical fertilizers and actively promotes their sustainable and balanced use, along with encouraging alternate fertilizers, organic, and natural farming practices. He also urged state government officials to take stringent action against the diversion of urea for non-agricultural uses and to ensure equitable distribution of fertilizers across all districts of Telangana.
