Re-opening of PLI Scheme for Textiles

The Ministry of Textiles has responded to industry demand with a significant and welcome announcement: the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles portal has been reopened for fresh applications. This move, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing in key segments such as Man-Made Fibre (MMF) Apparel, MMF Fabrics, and Technical Textiles, presents an excellent opportunity for companies looking to expand or establish their presence in these high-potential sectors.

The application window is now open and will remain active until 31st August 2025, giving interested companies just a few weeks to act.

Why This Matters

The PLI Scheme for Textiles is part of the broader Government of India initiative to transform India into a global manufacturing hub and to enhance its competitiveness in the global textile value chain. Originally announced in 2021, the scheme provides financial incentives on incremental production and is focused specifically on encouraging investment in MMF and technical textiles — areas where India has historically lagged behind competitors like China, Vietnam, and Bangladesh.

By reopening the portal, the Ministry is giving a second chance to companies that may have missed the earlier deadlines or are now in a position to meet the investment and performance criteria due to improved market conditions or internal readiness.

What’s on Offer?

The scheme incentivizes new investment in greenfield or brownfield projects and rewards companies based on the incremental production and sales of eligible textile products over a period of five years. The financial outlay of ₹10,683 crore under this scheme is aimed at promoting:

  1. Innovation and R&D in technical textiles
  2. Sustainable and value-added manufacturing in MMF
  3. Employment generation across the textile value chain

This is a chance for companies to align with global trends, such as eco-friendly synthetic fabrics and advanced technical textiles used in healthcare, agriculture, defense, and infrastructure.
Terms and Application Process

The Ministry has clarified that all existing terms and conditions, as notified through previous guidelines and official communications, will continue to apply mutatis mutandis. This means there will be no changes to the eligibility criteria, incentive structure, or compliance requirements from the original scheme framework.

To apply, interested businesses should visit the official PLI Scheme for Textiles portal. For additional information, including detailed scheme guidelines, documentation requirements, and FAQs, applicants can also refer to the Ministry of Textiles website.
